Environmental Hazards are those hazards that stem from the natural environment. These can include things such as ocean waves, ditches, trees, dangerous plants, etc.
Step 1
The first step in logging an environmental hazard is the identification stage. This will allow you to record the description of the hazard along with the risk of injury due to the hazard. This will give you a risk score letting you know how much attention to pay to the hazard.
Step 2
Step 2 reviews the hazard you have described and invites you to add a control to it in order to neutralize the hazard or reduce the likelihood of an incident occurring.
You can start by adding an immediate control in order to reduce risk while other control is being organised or if you aware the medium/long term control may take time. This can be added by selecting the "Yes-Add Another" button.
If the immediate control is completed and solves the issue completely you can move on without adding a medium/long term control by selecting the "No - Save & Go to Step 3" button.
Step 2b
Adding another control - Medium/Long term.
Step 3
Step 3 asks for the affect that the controls have had on the Hazard and whether training needs to be updated to identify this new Hazard to all employees. Initially record the immediate controls affect. Once the Medium/Long term control has been completed (in this case on the 14th), you can look up the Hazard and update the affect.
Step 4
The final step allows you to save the Hazard and review any changes you wish to make.
